Starting it is the only way to see if it's right. Have a CO2 fire extinguisher on hand.

You are ok to start the auto as long as there is nothing loose to fall in the engine (screw, nut, finger). I recommend making sure fuel line is not leaking. Hint for a quicker start; fill fuel filter with gas, pour about 2 tbl spoons of gas down the carb barrel.
If you have vacuum lines wrong, it may not idle or start. Nothing will hurt the build or engine.

you should be safe to start your car and test it out, all the carburetor is doing is adding fuel to the air the engine is pulling in. if you had some hoses wrong or it put back together improperly your truck would not run and you would then know that you need to go back and check your work

It just wont run right..only danger would be a massive fuel leak..crank it over and see what happens! (Hope you didn't have any 'spare parts'!) It may take awhile for the float bowel to fill with fuel so don't be surprised if you have to crank it a bit before it starts......

start it...if you did something wrong the worst thing that will happen is your car won't start. if it floods...you set the floats wrong...if it don't get enough gas..you set the floats wrong...the carburator is a fairly simple device...and if you did someting wrong while rebuilding it...then no biggy...it won't hurt the engine...
you can't get the fuel line connected improperly. only other things is the choke and the vaccum lines.

it probably wont run, or it might leak, i guess starting it is the only way your ever going to find out if you did it right or wrong; just be careful, gasoline is dangerous, i know people that got there eyebrows burned off from a backfire through the carburetor

Go ahead and try it out. There's no chance of hurting anything, however carburetors are very reliable. Your problem was probably something else, a fuel pump for instance.

Better keep a fire extinguisher handy. Carbs can be tricky to work on and put back together correctly.
