I would not go less then 3' you never know what the frost level could be from one year to the next.

Before you dig make sure you place a 1-Call...this is to locate any existing gas,electric,phone,TV,water,sewer lines.

You do not want to hit any of these when you dig. The utility companies charge a very large amount for hitting their lines. Most states it is illegal to dig without calling for notification markings 1st.

Contact your local utility company and ask them....

Here in PA it is 3' minimum. This is because of the frost/winter weather. It will not be as deep in Texas. Be sure to ask so you are legal and follow all building codes. Good luck.

I could tell you 18" but.. TO BE SURE FOR THE AREA YOU ARE IN.. Call the water company and find out.. it varies from area to area.
