My daughter is 9 months. We're having spaghetti for dinner and I'd like to give her some. Educated answers please, no opinions.

Some doctors say tomatoes are on the list of "allergenic" foods which you may want to hold off on introducing to the child. However, if your daughter is not high-risk for allergies, then you can probably introduce it to her. Remember, however, that tomatoes are acidic, so, the acid could bother her even if she isn't "allergic" to them.

I've been looking at the solids stuff a lot, as my daughter, who will be 4 mos next week, has started grabbing at food on my plate, so, I try to make sure there's nothing HORRIBLE within reach. (She managed to get a pea in her mouth the other day, so, I think we'll be starting solids very soon).

I was told by our pediatric Dr to hold off on, tomatoes, chocolate, shellfish, cows milk, strawberries, nuts (or peanut butter) untill 1 year old, only because these are the most common food allergies and to introduce these things one thing at a time just to make sure there are no reactions. I don't know why a year old is the magic age, but I also read it in a few books.

Although she is 9 months old, I would wait til the year mark OR call your Dr and check to see if they think it's ok

In spaghetti the tomatoes are processed and aren't at thier natural state which makes them okay. I have nephew who is allergic to tomatoes but he can eat pizza, spaghetti and any tomato thats been processed which doesn't mean store bought just cooked down from their natural state. Ask your doctor he would agree

According to the Better Baby Food Book from the Sick Childrens Hospital, it is ok to feed your child any fruit or vegitable after six months, the only thing you may want to concern yourself with though is the salt intake.
