Thermostat is bad or installed wrong. Maybe the temp. sender is bad and giving a wrong reading. Are the radiator hoses hot.
Might have a blown headgasket and coolant system is air locked.

first of all, what type of motorcar?? it truly is maximum important at the same time as asking a question and searching ahead to an smart or usable answer. you've gotten low coolant element. Is the radiator finished? no longer the coolant tank, the radiator itself. verify the radiator by technique of eliminating the cap at the same time as chilly (not in any respect OPEN THE RADIATOR at the same time as THE ENGINE IS warm) and be conscious in case you will see that fluid in the radiator. Fill it as necessary. once you fill the radiator and before you position the cap on, initiate the vehicle and enable it idle. seem into the radiator cap beginning and be conscious in case you spot coolant bypass (is the liquid in basic terms "sitting" there or "rolling" or "shifting") in the radiator with the engine chilly. in case you spot coolant bypass at the same time as chilly, the thermostat is stuck open. If low of coolant, the position is the leak, the position did the coolant flow? Low coolant will reason the temp gauge and verify engine basic besides because the heater malfunction. you've gotten a thermostat "stuck open" this will also reason the low gauge interpreting, set the engine code and reason the heater to no longer paintings. it is the most likely fault. I in basic terms had this correct subject with my 2004 Trailblazer. you've gotten a foul temp sensor notwithstanding it truly is amazingly not likely, because the Temp gauge and the ECM verify engine basic use 2 diverse sensors in maximum applications and the prospect of two sensors failing mutually is amazingly not likely. solid success!

check the coolant level first..if you changed the thermostat ..there may have been an airbubble in there that popped ..another possibility is the wrong application of a thermostat going into the vehicle..check OEM specs compared to what you put in..
Did you flush the system along with the thermostat?

start with the level..check the strength of the coolant as well..Start with the simple things then go with the more difficult stuff
