i'm a freshman in college and i have my first history test tomorrow. i dont think i know the material very well and think i may fail or get a D at best. For people that are or have went through college, does failing one test during the semester greatly impact your grade? or should i just pull an all nighter and try to review everything?

Depends on how many tests you have in that particulary class, and how much those tests are worth to your grade. If this is your first test and it is the end of october, your professor may only give you two tests: a mid-term and a final. If that is the case, you need to do well. Don't pull an all nigther either; it is very difficult to remember all the things you've crammed for the night before. It will be alright, just relax and study. Good Luck!

Firstly, pulling all nighter will generally hurt more than it helps. It's always important to get a decent amount of sleep before the test.
Secondly, that all depends on the teacher. Some teachers will either drop your lowest test or count it less if you improve considerably. Other teachers go strictly by numerical averages. That all depends on the teacher.
Worst comes to worst, if you're not happy with your grade on the test, when you get the test back, you can ask the teacher if there is anything you can do to help raise your grade. A lot of teachers will not offer you any options, but it doesn't hurt to ask, because your teacher might let you do something to raise your grade.
Don't worry too much about the test. I'm sure you know more than you think, and it's just one test, everyone does badly on a test every now and then.
Good luck!

In all actuality you may just be streessing yourself out. You may think you don't know anything when you actually do. Trust me, we all get scared around midterm time, you feel like you're blanking out and what not. So relax and take a deep breath.

About the grade, not necessarily. It all depends, is it just a test or is it a midterm? Is it the only test in the class? How many points is it worth? How many points is the final worth? Do you have other things to make up the points (projects, papers...etc..)? All this makes a difference, so like the other comment says, check your sylabus.

Also, it is just one class, so compare it to other classes (if any) that you are taking to see how it will affect your semesster GPA.

Study, review, get some sleep and Good luck on your test.

If it is your mid term, yes it will impact... If it is a reg test, then perhaps not. Many teachers allow you to throw out the lowest grade on a test when it comes time to average your grades...

All nighters are useless. Next time, pay attention in class and take notes - the action of listening and writing notes will help ingrain the info into your head. Then, do your homework.

Good luck!

No one can tell you whether that one test will impact your grade without knowing how many tests you have in that class and/or the weight of that particular test in that class.

The best idea is to try to learn as much as you can. Then, get some sleep tonight. Falling asleep during the test will not help you. And in the future...study ahead of time.

It depends on the teacher's lesson plan. How many tests will you have throughout the semester? What is the impact on each to your final score? Check you syllabus and do the math.

My advice is, if you pull an all-nighter, don't sit around listening to the latest Madonna or whoever's in these days...study well, relax, bone up on the basics and leave the partying to the weekends! (ps, history was my worst subject; find a unique angle to view it from and everything's gonna be alright (dont ya worry, don't ya hurry, the whole world's in too big a hurry) But take it from one who didn't get his degree...you'll regret it if you don't graduate.

The syllabus you likely got the first session of the class likely answers your question. IT should say what weight the instructor gives to each component of the class and what if anything you can do if you have special circumstances.

IT DEPENDS ON YOUR COLLEGE, MOST COLLEGES GO ON THREE THINGS
1. HOMEWORK
2. ATTENDANCE
3. TESTS

THEY FACTOR ALL THESE ELEMENTS IN TO GIVE YOUY A FINAL GRADE

THE TWO BIGGEST TEST ARE MID TERMS AND FINALS DO NOT FAIL THOSE OR YOU WILL NOT PASS..THE MAKE UP A HUGE PRECENT OF YOU GRADES
