Ok I have a 5 yr old daughter whose father is disabled. He uses his disability as an excuse not to help out financially with his daughter and in five yrs, he has not done anything for his daughter. I can't get child support from him because he receives SSI. Is there any way that I can get SSI benefits for my child because her father receives it?? Please Help!!!!!

If he would be receiving disability from Social security, then your child would be entitled to a check equal to half of what he gets monthly. But,if he is receiving SSI because he doesn't have a long enough work record,I don't think they make provisions for children.I may be wrong,it might be best to ask at the welfare office since I believe that is where SSI goes through.

Well, you can't get SSI benefits from her father, because SSI does not work that way.

She may be eligible for SSD (Social Security Disability) payments on his record, as an auxiliary child. They probably already asked him if he had any children, but that doesn't mean he told them.

To find out for sure, call or visit the social security administration with his social security number or his name and date/place of birth.

If she is disabled, consider filing for SSI for her.

But again, if he receives only SSI, there is no way to get any money from him.

Have you contacted your local SS office? Go to Social Services and check also..Really if he is on SSI he makes less than 15K a year on paper.. does he work on the side? can you prove it? Sorry there are not many options..

Call a Social Security office and make an appt. to go in and talk to them. If you know his SS number, take that with you.

Good luck!

If you have his social security number, you might have to talk with a lawyer, who specializes in social security. Everyone that I know including my husband had to have a lawyer to get any results, also you can write to your state Senator, God knows we had to. Hope this helps, Popciclecold.
