I place the blame on broadcast media, specifically conservative talk radio hosts and Fox news. Both of these are entertainment, nothing more. Both push a point of view that the less educated are unable to differentiate from real reporting. I suppose some blame rests with the public school system as well, for failing to teach critical thinking.
Americans want to be entertained, and indeed they are. The sad part is, they think they're watching a newscast.

I think hate radio is a sign of the times, not a cause - our society has begun what may be a terminal withdrawal from family values which is all that holds a society or a family together in the first place, as corny as that sounds.
So, now it's me me me, and a lot of people's politics nowadays is "what's in it for me" and "how can I get more money out of the government" which leads wealthy people to have to worry "how can I keep my assets out of these grabbing hands of all these people" etc.
I think that's what's behind it, and I don't see the trend reversing, sad to say. Rome fell too, once, and for the same reasons.

If your question aims to connect Hate Radio to US political situation, I'd go with a huge coincidence. Just like its a huge coincidence that a former multi-year welfare recipient drug addict became a popular talkshow host preaching conservative values...

You may have something there. I went on wikipedia to read about Rush Limbaugh, and the man seemed to have exploded right after Clinton got elected.

No more common enemy, like the communists. A lot of libs believe in the conspiracy theory and thus, their enemy is the govt. instead of the terrorists.
