Yasmine, you do know it's okay to ask for help? Honey, lots of people suffer from depression. It's not something you have to be ashamed about. You can ask for help, and sometimes people need help with dealing with it. Depression is an illness, it's as real as chicken pox or a cold. And it can be as serious as cancer if you don't get it under control.

I have suffer with depression for years, I don't want to scare you, but I want to be truthful with you. Some people can have it for a week, a month, or a year...and then be perfectly fine. I have a more severe case. My way of dealing with things is this..."It could be worse". One of the doctors I went to said, I shouldn't say that, but you know what he does live in my body, he doesn't think like I do, and he doesn't know that some days it's all I can do to get out of bed.

I can always look around me, and see someone in worse shape than I am. It's possible for everyone to do this. I have to still kick myself in the butt some mornings to get out of bed, and to be honest, some days I don't. But I make myself function, I push myself. And you know what, I am glad I do. I would have missed alot of good things if I stayed under the covers. I only allow myself 1 day a month now, to play hookie on life. At the beginning it was more, but now I can make through most days, weeks, and one day I will make the whole month without using my "sick day".

Some people say don't do the drugs, well I do take a anti-depression pill. I will take the pill every morning, thanking God that he let them be discovered. You might can get through this without it, and I pray that you do, but if not, then it doesn't hurt to ask for something. Start a journal, thats a good idea. Take up a new hobby, learn something new, take a night course, get out and go places...even you just go window shopping.

Put on some nice clothes, some make up and go grab a coke with a friend. Go to the library there are some really good books out there for depression. I use answers as my outlet right now, and it's helps me to help others. So, please please don't be afraid or ashamed to ask for help. A hug a day wouldn't hurt either. So I will send you one now. You aren't alone, Jasmine, never think that, and honey, you can get through this, I promise.

God bless us all..............

You can’t get over chronic depression without help. Depression is very common, and it is an illness. Many people have the problem, and there are many prescription drugs out there to help the situation. The most important thing to remember is that it is not the fault of the person. There are drugs called SSRI (Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors) that work wonders for not only depression, but also OCD, Social Disorder, Eating Disorders and irritable bowel syndrome.

See a doctor and talk about the problem. It will not go away without treatment.

Good Luck

ASK FOR HELP!!! If your depression is interfering with the way you live then you should. There is no shame...it's an illness.....millions of us have it....and that's ok!

Would you say : how can I get over these violent stomach pains without help?

Please don't worry about asking, it makes you a stronger person
if you are able to recognise you have a problem and address it in the correct way.

Best wishes.

You don't if you are really depressed and not just sad

If you feel that you are depressed, you may wish to talk about your feelings with a family member or a close friend. Communication is one of the keys to early diagnosis and treatment. People close to you may have felt you were depressed. With their encouragement, you should call your health care provider

Clinical depression is not something you feel for a day or two before feeling better. In true depression, symptoms last weeks or months, sometimes years if you don't seek treatment. If you are depressed, you are often unable to perform daily activities. You may not care enough to get out of bed or get dressed, much less work, do errands, or socialize.

Adults: You may be said to have clinical depression if you have a depressed mood for at least 2 weeks and have at least 5 of the following symptoms:

Feeling sad or blue

Loss of interest or pleasure in usual activities

Significant weight loss or weight gain

Inability to sleep or excessive sleeping

Agitation or irritability

Fatigue or loss of energy

Feelings of worthlessness or excessive guilt

Thoughts of death or suicide

Children: Children with depression also experience these classic symptoms, but may exhibit other symptoms as well, including the following:

Poor school performance

Persistent boredom

Frequent complaints of physical problems such as headaches and stomachaches

Some of the classic "adult" symptoms of depression may also be more obvious in children, such as change in eating or sleeping patterns. (Has the child lost or gained weight in recent weeks or months? Does he or she seem more tired than usual?)

That depends on the nature of the depression. Melancholy feeling or the blues happen to us all and are normal and will pass on their own. Deep depression that has no apparent source and is persistant chronic and moderate to severe should not be tackled by oneself. Self isolation is one of the features of depression so it is best to find some one to work with. There are many strategies...go to your library and look for self help books...learn as much as you can about depression, challenge others to talk about it and engage in a exercise program. Eat healthy...those should get you started...

You can't Sweetie! It's hard... believe me, I know. But studies have shown that talking with a counselor and taking prescription medications is the best way to over come depression. Depression is a chemical imbalance in your brain and you need to seek treatment through your doctor. It's hard, but you will be so glad that you bit the bullet when it's all said and done.

Good luck Hun!

You can't get over depression by yourse;lf, any more than you can cure cancer by yourself. It is an illness and there are effective treatments for it.

And as far as "thinking happy thoughts," that makes as much sense as telling an insomniac to get more sleep.

depression is all in your head......try to look at the positive side of life.......look at the people that don't have legs.......and think that you are very lucky to live without any disabilities.......
try to focus on things that interest you......talk to your parents....to friends......open your thoughts your feelings to them!!!!
talk to your pastor, priest, counsellor!!! i hope this will help, by the way.....try to open up your self to God...He is the only friend that will not leave you, and will always there for you anytime!!!
