are you people serious? of course it is ok for minors to carry a knife. i mean, they should be taught responsible use of it, and not have a switchblade or solely weaponized blade, but whats wrong with having a pocketknife? nothing as far as i can see... next thing your know, it seems minors won't be able to use a knife at the dinner table, if the people in this quesiton have their way...

Most states do not have laws that regulate the use of a knife to an age. Same for guns for hunting purposes. Certain kinds of knives can be illegal and it is mostly illegal to have a knife concealed on ones person.

The state of california requires a dagger style knife be carried in a sheath and in plane view for instance. Folding knives cannot have a spring action and must not be in a ready to use state.

Certain local ordinances make carrying a knife illegal in certain areas. You cannot take a knife into an airport, school, government building or some private buildings like banks.

Many minors do not know how to handle a knife legally. Taking a knife out and displaying it to another can get a minor in trouble.

The only legal justification of using a knife on another person is if the stabber's life is actually threatened. You cannot stab someone if a mugger comes up and asks for your money. If the mugger has a gun, it is a different story.

If you tell me which of the 50 states you live in, I can tell you what the knife laws are with a simple statute search. No one can claim to know the facts with all certainty until they get your jurisdicition

There are a lot of correct answers here. Bekk is very correct. It is legal for you to carry a knife in any state to the best of my knowledge, so long as you don't intend to use it for self defense or in an area where it's possession is restricted regardles of your age (such as a school or court house).

The bottom line - if you're carrying a swiss army knife because you are on your way to a Boy Scout meeting - I'd leave you alone. If you were hanging out behind a 7-11 after dark with a butterfly knife - you'd have a lot of explaining to do.

Be good!

Yes it is ok, law-wise.As long as the knife itself isnt illegal. Just make sure you keep the knife concealed and don't bring it out. Also some places it is illeagel to have weapons, like school for example. Also make sure not to bring it out and show your friends ect, that can get you in trouble. One more thing, you are a minor so as long as you dont kill or hurt someone you will not get in much trouble even if you did get caught; Most likely you would just get a warning or something. I started carrying a knife when I was around 15 which was quite awhile ago. I was taking my dog for a walk and I got attacked by 2 Rotwhielers(sp?). Anyways just be careful with it and protect yourself.

This is the dumbest question I have seen today. No it's not OK and like someone else said before me, it's not OK for anyone to carry a knife. Why do you need to anyway? If you need it for protection, maybe you should stay away from wherever it is you were planning on going with the knife. Now if it's school then I suggest talking to a teacher or principal about why you feel that you have to protect yourself at school.

Call your local Police Dept and they will answer your question as to length and how if it is long how it should be carried. In my town as young adults and as adults it is considered WEIRD not to have a pocket knife. We trade, buy, sell, and have done so sinse high school. Length is the big factor cause after 6-7 in. it has to be worn in a sheath outside and on the side

I think it depends on the responsibility of the minor. I got my first pocket knife when I was 9 years old and I still have all of my fingers.

Of course it's not ok for God's sake. Just like it's not ok to carry guns. Why would you carry a knife if you're not gonna use it. so therefore don't carry it and you won't be tempted to use it. especially minors. Jesus Christ, the world's gone mad

Morally or Legally? Morally, I'd say for self defense or as a tool, so long as they know how to use it and understand how to be responsible (well that rules out MOST minors, and even a lot who are of age), I'd say yes. Legally, well that depends on where you live, doesn't it?

No, because sometimes things can get out of hand and you might be in such a rage and use the knife on someone.
