My parents starting dropping me off with a couple of friends at the mall or the movies when I was about 12 or 13. We always had a set time to be picked up and a set place to meet. None of us had cell phones because they weren't big then (this was over 10 years ago) but we always made sure we had plenty of change for a payphone. I think 14 is old enough to be allowed to do those things...malls and theaters usually have either in-house security or actual police on patrol in case you run into trouble.

Um, I'm thinking. 15, 16? I'm 20 now & married since I was 18. I'm sorry that you can't do some things you want to. Parents can be too overprotective but I think for the most part they don't mean to make you feel so bad, they really do just care. There are so many crazy evil people out there. I'm sure when I have a child I'll be scared out of my mind about what could happen to them. I think that one way to sometimes correct this problem is to try & prove that you can be responsible & mature about those kinds of things. Show that you have some knowledge about protecting yourself & how to be safer. & try to compromise about a few things because even if she eventually will let you go & do things by yourself it will probably make her feel loads better if she can check in on you very often. But hey, if she were letting you finally, how could you really complain? So anyway, I don't mean to preach, just want to help. Good luck!!!

17...seriously. Not until I got my license, and had a job. My parents were very strict. I, too, thought they were ruining my life. Now that I am a little older, wiser, and a parent myself...they *were* right!!! Your mom is not trying to ruin your life. She's actually trying to do exactly the opposite: to protect it. The world is becoming more and more dangerous as time goes by. You are only 14. You have a lot of time ahead of you to "go out by yourself." Imagine if you were let to go out by yourself at a very young age and something horrible happened to you. You wouldn't have any time ahead of you to go out by yourself, or with anyone else for that matter.

It may not feel like it now, but she loves you and is trying to protect you. There are a lot of weirdos out there!!! I am 34 and have 2 kids...a 8 yr old daughter and a 8 month old son and i am telling you from a mother's point of view, she is not out to get you, just trying her best to protect you. That is what mother's do best. My mom did not let me do that til 16 and i delibertly sneaked out my window twice at 15 yrs old cuz i thought i was smarter than my mother and I left for several hours both times. Being a mother now, I know i scared my mom to death when i did that. appreciate your mother(your parents) cause they are on this earth for a short time. My mom died jan 29, 2006 very suddenly...my son was born feb 3rd, 2006...just appreciate your parents, they are doing what's right!!!

Since I was 12. My mom didn't have a problem if I wanted to go the mall or movies with my mates if I wanted to. She just said I was old enough. Well try to give your mom some reasons that your responsible and reasons why you should be able to go with YOUR mates places without her. Because REALLY what's gonna happen to you at the mall or whatever?
