Joel, you can have it all. Snow skiing in the Spanish Sierra Nevada just outside Granada, then return to Costa Brava on the southern coast of Spain. A beautiful little seaside town is Salobrena (due south of Granada) January weather is similar to San Diego!!

I don't know where you are coming from initially, but let's assume that you're already in Prague. Spain is a little too far away (and overpriced, thanks to the Brits). France is also kind of the same. If you really want some warm weather, I suggest going to Greece. Cyprus also seems like a nice bet.

It depends on what your idea of "warm" is. If you're looking to go to the beach, I don't think Europe the best place to be in January.
Here's a list of places and their average temperatures (in degrees celcius) that are your best bet for "warmER" temperatures:
Sicily, Italy: 13 degrees
Greece: 11 degrees
Spain: 10 degrees
Portugal: 11 degrees
I'm from Toronto and I visited northern Switzerland in February and I thought it was ok. I brought my winter jacket and some gloves, but it wasn't anything I couldn't handle. There's no wind chill (like here in TO) so it was tolerable...Besides the weather, the country is absolutely gorgeous (but a little on the expensive side!)
But since you're in the winter, why not take advantage of their excellent skiing?? And if you're not a skier i'm sure they have tobogganing available too!! :)
Happy Travelling!!

In can be cold anywhere in Europe in the winter, but Southern Greece, Southern Italy and Southern Spain are the best bets for decent weather. Days are longer, too.

The Canary Islands are identified to be the sun hub of Europe! See this sunlight with hotelbye . Canary Islands offer a slight temperatures and a variety of fantastic organic attractions. Five of its seven islands have already been stated a Biosphere Reserve, and the archipelago has four national parks. Probably the most excellent attractions in Canary Islands will be the beaches because they are only great for comforting in sunlight or experiencing water activities such as for example windsurfing and scuba diving. In Canary Islands you will also be impressing by the inside appeal like: hiking, period touring, climbing and also caving. Some of the very most spectacular attractions of Canary Islands are: the volcanic scenery of Lanzarote, the beaches of Fuerteventura and Gran Canaria with their mud dunes, or the natural forests of La Palma and La Gomera.

Try looking at a world globe... if you did, they you would see that the 40th line of Latitude goes just North of Sevilla Spain and THROUGH BOULDER COLORADO.. The warmest places in Europe at this time of year are NOT IN CONTINENTAL EUROPE... try the Greek Islands... the mediterranean has a moderating effect on their weather.
