Okay- if you kill two people, what could you be charged with if you are found guilty? I didn't kill anyone, but I need to know for homework. To make it more specific- let's say jane killed george and lila. jane killed them because george was jane's boyfriend... but he was also lila's boyfriend. what would this be considered?

This depends on what State you are in and the particular facts and circumstances of the killing. Here are three possibilities
1. Capital murder-most death penalty states have a provision that makes a murder case capital when there is "the killing of more then one person"
2. Murder-if the killing was committed with premeditation or malice aforethought it is murder
3. Manslaughter-if the killing was committed in the heat of passion (Jane walks in on Lila and George having sex. Jane freaks out, picks up the nearest weapon and kills both Lila and George)

Well, there are many degrees of homicide (killing another person) Murder means you did it illegally and either intentionally or with such carelessness that it could have been avoided. Manslaughter means you didn't mean to do it, like you punch a guy in a bar fight and he falls and hits his head.

Then there's involuntary manslaughter, and even justifiable homicide when you wouldn't be charged at all.

So the basic choices are murder or manslaughter.
