I asked a question an hour ago about what 5 issues were the most important to you. I received a lot of good responses like the following:
National Security
Immigration/Border Control
Education Reform
Government Spending/Budget
War
Health Care Reform
The Environment
And a lot of other issues........

So I guess my question is, how do we get our government to avoid the bickering and focus on these issues?

Please do not answer with – By not voting for Republicans/Democrats

SHIRAZ and V....I think you may be part of the problem. You’re both going to have to face the fact that some intelligent people don't agree with all of your ideas. You should try being part of the solution by putting aside your anger and working to improve your country.

Get some politicians that care more about the country than their party or their jobs

By setting guidelines. SOMEONE needs to be in charge of penalties enforced on politicians who make deliberate accusations that demean another politician publicly. This does not mean that disagreements cannot be heard or discussed - but respectfully.

ONLY issues need be discussed - not personal attacks. If a politician is accused of some type of criminal action or immoral deed, this should be handled in a private setting amongst peers and media information should be given with the up most professional candor.

Again, someone to monitor this behavior, along with penalties applied for anyone who goes beyond the boundaries of its set guidelines.

I saw on Yahoo's "Talk to Power" section Sen. Edward Kennedy talk on this very issue. I do not like his politics but he is right in what he said. He said partisan politics is America's fault because we keep electing partisan politicians (paraphrased). He is under the impression that he is partisan, he keeps getting elected, his constituents want partisan politics, which might very well be true.

So what has to be done to get rid of the bickering is to vote in moderates and those willing to go across the isle. Talk to your party reps about putting up such a person and if necessary, run yourself. If you feel strongly enough and get enough people with you, you can actually run for office yourself on that platform. But both parties have people who can be bi-partisan, McCain (R) and Leiberman (D). Yea, I know he went independant but he is a dem with an I now and probably going to get elected on a bipartisan platform. We must elect those who will go bipartisan if we truely want that in our government.

For Americans to get smarter and stop buying what they being sold by the talking heads in D.C. When you have people on this site mimicking almost word for word the two parties talking points you know too many people are not thinking for themselves. I don't buy anything till I have kicked the tires myself. If Americans started thinking for themselves and stopped being told what to think we could change the face of politics.
