Well, if they moved out in the middle of the night -- guess why -- it is because they are fleeing something or behind on their bills or don't want the long arms of the law to reach them -- all reasons why people move in the middle of the night suddenly.
Then ... it does make sense as to why they left their dog behind -- if they can't pay for the bills of their own (food, shelter, utilities), then how in the world can one expect them to pay for the dog's needs too.
YOU need to call your local Animal Control -- and have the animal picked up -- tell them it is in the yard or wherever and has no food or water. They will take it from there.

They obviously didn't care too much and therefore did not deserve the dog (I swear dogs are better than most people).
Anyways, you can take him to the humane society and they will try to find him a home or I would place an ad in the paper advertising for a free dog and find a good owner for him or her that way, that is unless I could keep him/her myself ;)

Some people have no heart or morals or love for their fellow creatures. Give him/her some food and water and call an animal welfare group, they will come and collect the dog. And in the meantime, give the dog some love.

You can call the humane society or animal control. Some people don't care about animals. I'm not too fond of dogs myself, which is why I don't have one. Maybe they were tired of taking care of it. The real question is why do people get pets that they can't/won't take care of. Do you want a dog?

I think you should call animal control you could even call the police and they can be charged with animal neglect or abuse, because you just dont do that, you dont leave an animal behind, maybe in the time being you can find it in your heart to feed the animal... Good Luck

OMG That happened to me- with a CAT! My boss called me to come & get her, these pp had left 3 weeks ago. We kept her, got all her shots, now have to get her spayed. ($$$) Are you in any position to find her a home? How about the nearest VET. Not humane society- only as a last resort... Good Luck

They must have no conscience. Call the local humane society and give them the old neighbors name. Hopefully they will be able to track them down and charge them with animal neglect.

They did it because they are mean and irresponsible. Get ahold of the humane society in your area and let them know. Hopefully, they will press charges for animal cruelty against the owner and find him a good home.

They might do it because they don't like the dog but if you don't want it then you should take it to a shelter or give it to someone that does want it.

Call your local animal control. This is animal neglect and abandonment. I can't comprehend why anyone would do that. They definitely do not need to be pet owners. Very cruel.
