There are so many rich/famous people that just take and take and never give....

Have you ever had an experience to the contrary?

I live in New Orleans and we've had a lot of celebrities helping us rebuild/ save this city. Sean Penn was here to rescue people from their houses! He actually went around the neighborhoods on a boat and saved lives.

Daryl Hall and John Oates are the official spokesmen for this year's Toys For Tots campaign that is sponsored each year by The US Marine Corps. Daryl and John are donating a portion of the proceeds from their newly-released holiday CD, HOME FOR CHRISTMAS.

Everyone in their fan club and members of their message board at www.hallandoates.com are inspired by their generosity. We have had people donating $$ to TFT and collecting new toys to donate.

They don't have to do anything, but they have chosen to give back to the children in the US who might not have a good holiday season. Additionally, Daryl Hall was stricken with Lyme's Disease last year and t-shirts were sold through the website with proceeds going to Lyme Disease research.

Hall and Oates are the masters behind songs like RICH GIRL, MANEATER, SHE'S GONE, ONE ON ONE, PRIVATE EYES; they were HUGE in the 70's and 80's, marking enough #1's to make them the most successful duo in Rock 'N Roll history.

I'd say they are among the few who give instead of take.

Ted Turner opened a restaurant down the street and ruined business at the local family owned place. Same for Walmart, he killed off so many local places with his big store.
On the good side, the Denver Broncos sponser a local recreation center for poor kids.

Yeah, James Avery (Uncle Phil, Fresh Prince of Bel Air) grew up in my hometown (Atlantic City, NJ) and lived in a nearby neighborhood. His mother still has a house in that neighborhood and he often comes back to visit. Years ago he even contributed a hefty amount for $$$ to the local Boys and Girls Club and other youth organizations. Cool, huh?
