Can DNA be preserved indefinatly in this form?

There will be DNA in it because it will contain Epithelial Cells and White Blood Cells. All of the bodies cells contain DNA in their nuclei.

Yes there is. Nasal secretions will contain epithelial and white blood cells. Both of these cell types are nucleated (contain a nucleus and contain DNA. The DNA remains viable in dried stains and can be extracted and amplified by the polymerase chain reaction. So, besides the obvious contact traces of blood, semen and saliva etc any nasal secretions left at a scene of a crime or on a victim can lead to the identification of the perpetrator. The PCR technique is so sensitive that it is possible to amplify the DNA from a stain many months old. However, if the stain has been kept wet for a period of time the cell and DNA can degrade and it will not be possible to obtain a full DNA profile from these stains. A partial profile could be obtained or no profile at all. I am aware of one case in which a murderer left his handkerchief near the victim's body. He was identified through the DNA profiling of nasal staining;
