Just like the sponge in your kitchen sink, they have a limit tp the amount of liquid ( Water in this case) they can hold. As do the ones in the ocean. There is just not enough sponges int he ocean to dry it up!

a sponge can only absorb so much water
there is too much water in the ocean for sponges to absorb all of it

Hey you may be onto something here! - you know global warming is going to raise the water level as more ice melts? - well all we need to do is grow thousands of sponges to keep the water level the same. You're a genius - Nobel Prize coming your way.

that's like asking if there's a sink full of water and you put two sponges in it and your like why didn't the sponges soke up all the water well there's only two in there they only soak up a tiny bit of the water there not enough of them to soak up all that water in the ocean....

Because there is a shortage of sponges, caused by the ozone, they blame everything else on that, so why not!
