I'm a republican and, for a long time, was in support of Bush's policies. But his recent policy permitting the torture of accused terrorists, and the right to waver habius corpus for accused terrorists or conspirators has made me loose a great deal of respect for Bush because I believe these laws to be completely unconstitutional. You don't become what you're fighting, otherwise what's the point? These new laws have made all republicans look bad, and have made us seem like unconstitutional radicals. Opinions?

I have not lost any respect for him. Is it really torture or is that simply the word the liberal media chooses to use? Do you realize that for those policies to become law a majority of congress must approve? Bush says they only use coercive tactics and not torture. Do yourself a favor and research how the Brits learned about the plot to bring down airliners flying between UK and US. The info was obtained by the Pakistanis. Did they use torture do you suppose? How many lives were saved? As far as habius corpus goes, why should it apply to enemies? It had to be suspended during the American Civil War. Nobody called Lincoln terrible names for doing that. Hanging on to our ideals is foolish when it means you endanger the ones trying to defend you. Have you ever been in a real fight? If you ever are you had better be willing to stoop as low as your attacker i.e. become what you're fighting, or you are going to lose.

Waive and lose may be better words than waver and loose. When talking about respect, using proper english will assist in getting the point across.

I respect him more after this because of what is on the line in terms of this war on terror. These terrorists are hell bent on killing innocent WOMEN AND CHILDREN! That means no matter what we do to them, we will have the high moral ground. That means its open season on terrorists baby!

Non-american citizens are not protected by our constitution. They HAVE no constitutional rights. I have no problem with suspected terrorists being tortured. I will sleep tonight just fine. I have enough faith in our leaders that they will not abuse such power.
