Adults have always been worried about teenagers if you look at the studies. A similar study showed the same thing back in the 1950s here in the states, when kids would ambush teachers for giving bad grades. It all stems from the news reports of the violence kids do, and they have been doing it for as long as there has been time. Also you will find it is other peoples kids, not their own.
Now I am a firm believer in spare the rod spoil the child and if you look at the school shootings we have here you will see that most if not all the kids who do them are given free reign by their parents and there is a huge lack of discipline in their households. However it should be noted that kids today are saints compared to when I was their age (in the states, do not know Britain's statistics). Even though the coverage of their violence has gone up, statistically it has gone down since the 70s.

Modern child rearing is based on the 'noble savage' theory of human psychology ie everyone is born decent, kind and gentle and is only taught to be thuggish and violent by 'society'. Anyone with the most rudimentary knowledge of anthropology and human history ought to know this is utter b****cks.
In fact we need to teach kids not to follow their inherently selfish nature with strict discipline including, yes, the occasional use of corporal punishment when necessary.

I am confused as I have never been afraid of teenagers, so the whole thing is rather perplexing to me
