Science has to do with almost everything - in your case, certain minerals are used to make colors, different makeup substances will have different Ph levels, which will have different reactivity with skin types, and some makeup substances will have chemical building blocks that will make them incompatible with other makeup substances. Look at it this way - a makeup artist is a pharmacist for someone's face. (Besides, what if you change your mind about your career and want to build dragsters?)
