My boyfriend (of 3 years) and I have a beautiful 8mo. old baby girl. His 13yr old daughter from a previous relationship, whom he absolutely adores, has chosen to stop speaking to him. She even told him she never wants to speak to him again. Please understand she used to visit us often, and she and I got along pretty well. They stopped speaking, but he has since been writing her letters. Is this common amongst kids these days? It's heartbreaking watching him go through this. What can I do?

I don't think thats common behavior. Its common for teenagers to occasionally stop talking to their parents, but theres usually a bigger reason other than a new baby. I'd ask her mom whats up and see if the three of you can work together to figure out AND solve the problem.

I would guess it is a combination of being 13 and having a baby sister, My daughter is in a similar situation but her dad really made her part of the baby's life. When you are the complete focus of your parents life for 13 years and someone comes along that takes all the attention off of you it is very hard to understand.
You guys should make sure that you do things with and for her so she knows she is still Daddy's little girl and a priority in your life
she will come around but as the adults you two will have to make most of the effort.
Good Luck

You can sit there and wonder all day and make a million suppositions on what could be problem. But the best way to get to the root of the drama is to talk to her. If she doesn t wanna talk then you cant make her. While things are awkward at the moment time usually has a way of sorting these situations out. Good luck I hope things get better :)

She's going through puberty and feeling replaced. Get a babysitter for the day and take her and do something special to reassure her that she is important to you. I would also fine out if her mom is feeding her lies that she isn't loved by dad anymore because he has a new baby. Some women wanting to hurt there EX's will hurt their children to do it.

it is only strange by the way you look at it

A. have u thought that maybe she was jealous of the new baby and u guys starting a family( she probably thought that eventually her dad and mom were going to get back together) thats common

B. i dont want to scare u but it happened to me but.... when i was raped of course by a male, i didnt want to talk to any male for sure and to think i was that age when it happened but that is just what happened to me

teenagers are abit confusing and all u can do is let her know she is there and get her involved in the new arrival teenage girls love new borns

Teenagers are a strange breed, a totally inexact science. Give her some time to cool off; is it because she is jealous of the new baby?
Maybe after her temper calms down you can try to approach her and work it out. But I gotta tell ya, teenagers are a rollercoaster!!! Hang on!!

i would say maybe shes jealous

ask her mother if you can take her out for the day

just you and her
and no distractions

go to the mall, or the movies
and jsut talk

maybe you can get to the bottom of it htat way

maybe she just is feeling left out

let her no you care about her

maybe this will help

then inturduce the baby into you hangouts
and finally your boyfriend

see if this helps

hope i was helpful

She probably is wondering why you 2 have a baby and you all live together but she can't live there with you. Try to get custody of her or at least she if she would like to live with you.

Stay out of the way. She'll eventually come around and tell what her problem was/is and then he may come to you for advise on how to work it out. So just wait it out.
