I fear not really living for fear of death. I've lost everyone in my immediate family in the last 18 months. Instead of curling up in a ball, I keep trying to remind myself that they'd want me to live. How can life be enjoyed if lost in the fear of death? Dieing should be the easy part.

Most people are afraid of what they don't know about. It's a pretty natural reaction. All that most of us know for sure is that whatever happens after death, it doesn't seem to involve hanging around in the places we're all familiar with. (I haven't seen too many dead people around at least!)

If you don't want to be afraid any more, you have to face death. Learn about it. Spend time with someone who is dying (they'll probably appreciate it too!). If you can, see an autopsy. Spend time in a graveyard. It may sound morbid, but I think most people will come to realize that there are lots of ways to die and the process itself isn't necessarily a horrible one.

Then you can learn to face the unknown. This will serve you well for your whole life. Play a game your friends play without learning the rules first. Visit a country where you don't speak the language. Spend a day blindfolded. You'll find that you have capabilities you never even dreamed of, and you'll see so many new worlds you may start be amazed at how you could have missed them all along.

Then, perhaps, death will not be a horrible onus, but just something different. A challenge to overcome. A new mode of being, but one you can face knowing how truly wonderful you are.

Death is nothing to fear. Fear comes from being unequal to a challenge.

Actually, the process of dying is quite literally horrible. It is, however, a part of life for all of us. I admit that I fear death; not necessarily the potential pain of dying, but of ceasing to exist.

I know many people believe in an afterlife. Although I would be very happy if it turned out to be true, I certainly have found no evidence that it exists at all. In fact, the more experience I have with life, the more I've come to realize that an 'afterlife' is most likely just wishful thinking.

I'm not saying that I know for sure, either way. It's precisely that lack of knowledge that causes me the most apprehension. That, and the long string of failed hopes that society has projected onto me throughout life (you know who are Mr. Easter Bunny, Santa and dare I say it, God)... oooohhh... bound to get some flames outta that one! I do believe in Jesus though. I think he was a really great guy. Really great and definitely dead, and not a god, but wonderful all the same.

I'm holding out for machine<->human consciousness transfers, myself.

The question is really 'Are you more afraid of dying or are you more afraid of not really living for fear of death?'
Everyone is afraid of dying, its a natural part of our human condition. Most people will never even admit their fear, since it causes such so much anxiety. It is natural, too, for us humans to repress thoughts of anything that cause anxiety. Denial is the first line of ego defense.
There are a lot of people who don't really live for fear of death. But who is afraid of not really living for fear of death? Anyone who thinks about it must be aware of the fact that they are afraid of dying, and the acceptance of that fact is the first step towards coping with the anxiety of death.

I would say dieing... i have watched 2 family members die & it was dreadful !! Both died of cancer, the pain & suffering they went though was the most upsetting thing to see..

Im dreading when the time comes, I will have to leave behind my beautiful children, will I see them get married, will I beable to hold their children etc.. that is the bit Im most afraid of what will happen to them in life, it's the thought of not knowing will they have a good life and who will be there for them !!!!

We all know we are going to die eventually. Why waste precious time worrying about it? Live each day as though it was your last, experience everything you have always wanted to try and don´t think about it! The way I see it, if there´s nothing after death, you won´t be there to worry and if there is something, BONUS!!!!

You shouldn't fear death as it prevents us from living life to the full but you should fear surviving a potentially fatal incident only to find your life is no longer worth living .

I'm not afraid of dying, nor do I fear that death may hold dominion over me, but I do sometimes fear that my life or death may be abused by others in pursuit of their selfish goals.
