Since almost all Canadian dairy products cannot be exported to and sold in the USA, and, in Canada, all liquid dairy is packaged in standardized metric containers (litre, 250ml, 2 litre, etc) and all cheeses weighed by grams, why is butter in Canada sold in 454gram (1 US pound) blocks instead of 500 gram and 250 gram blocks?

I have no idea. I really don't. Maybe it's for recipes? I'm unfamiliar with Canadian dairy practices... sorry!

We used to use the imperial system up here. I guess when we converted to metric we just converted pounds & ounces to grams & litres rather than coming up with new size portions.
