I've noticed at my school that there are alot of homophobes and I have alot of gay friends so this really bugs me. And I try to convince people that there is nothing wrong with gay people but no one listens. Are people afraid of something different or is it some other reason. PLEASE! NO RELIGOUS ANSWERS!!!

I assume it is because most people are fearful or feel threatened by what they can't understand or view as abnormal.
Additionally, it allows those with some question about their own sexuality an opportunity to take a moral "high ground" and avoid dealing with their uncertainty.

Overall, it's a open door to ignore the basic rule of social interaction... be tolerant if you can't be one!

Because people have a knack of thinking that whatever they do is always right. They think that since they're straight, that is the 'right' thing. Here in India, gay people are non-existent, i.e., they don't come out at all except in big cities like Delhi and Mumbai where there are a few open-minded people. They're considered weird and disgusting which is why they look at them as if they're some other species. Foolish people. I try to convince them all the time, even though I have no gay friends nor am I myself gay.

I wonder how old you are. Your in school? Well I think people at school can be very immiture and they won't understand about being gay for years to come. In my life, I have discovered that between the ages of 18-23 there are a lot of things that start to make sence and you look at people and life diffrently. Also things you go thru in life sometimes open your mind. Anyhow, While now some people may think it's nasty to be gay I bet in 5 or 6 years some of them will think diffrent about this or even be gay also. It's all about being happy and accepting yourself. Also maybe the way they were raised,a lot of adults are close minded about this too. Thanks for not being racist and being a better person=}

It is a way for people to make themselves feel better. They will say to themselves and/or others "I may not be perfect, but at least I'm not one of 'those' people" with those people having been Jewish people in World War 2 Germany and African Americans in the United States. Gay people are just the latest target. Unfortunately, people acting this way seem to do so because they do not have many qualities of their own and the easiest way they can feel better about themselves is to put down others.

Not to get too deep with this answer but, I think attraction plays a part in it. People can't see to get around why other people find the same sex attractive. For instance. I have a friend who understands that I dig guys but, he finds my attraction to bigger, hairy guys "strange". I wouldn't call him a homophobe by any means, in fact he is pretty understanding and supportive. He just provide a bit of insite into how people proceive themselves and others.

I have no clue! I dont find anything wrong with gay people!! Some gay people might think that straight people are weird for being straight! they are the same as straight people! lol.. kinda... I guess people were jsut taught when they were little, that iif your a guy its normal to like a girl, and vise-versa... but now-a-days, the Gay population has increased and people arent really use to it!!!

because their will always be a*seholes!

and as they say most homophobes are living a lie anyway, to scared to admit they too have feelings for the same sex.

as for the religious beliefs on it, well religion is just another word for dictatorship.

It's makes them feel superior to think you're somehow "defective". It's usually a combination of ignorance and willful stupidity. You'll learn to ignore idiots.
