I have been on income support and sickness benefit for over a decade due to illness and I hate it.At times I feel totally demoralised for having to raise my family this way.I find that people treat me as a dropout or some form of scavenger trying to get something for nothing, the irony is that most of them would rather I was in Gaol instead of claiming benefit.

The only reason people feel shame is because others are judgmental. If we were less obsessed about judging other people (basically so we can point out the wrong in them so we ourselves can attempt to feel superior) then people wouldn't need to feel shame, and could just get on with living their lives without having some sort of social stigma attached to them, and could maybe move forward in their lives. Unfortunately too many people are too judgmental, and once you give a dog a bad name...

this is a weird question to set - and yet i agree with you, to a point.

i can only guess that you don't really understand what you have written.

i have been a regular helper for a local charity which raises money for children with special needs - and they, nor their families think that they should live in shame because they get help from us.

we are planning an Xmas party for up to 150 local children with special needs, and trying to raise £1,000,000 towards a special holiday home for them to stay at.

if i have perceived you question then i apologise.

No.
I would be extremely ashamed to go to jail. My family would not talk to me, i would loose all my friends.
However I would have NO problem going on unemployment for 6 month if I get laid off.
