many people find it almost impassible NOT to feel sorry for themselves when they are down. Why is it so easy to feel bad about yourself? If we were to set apart a few minutes each day to 'feel sorry for oursleves' and then move on with our day and consider ourselves lucky, would this method work?

It's easier to feel sorry for ourselves b'cause we know what's going on in our heads and can sympathize with ourselves easier than with a person we have to try to understand first. I don't think setting aside time to feel sorry for ourselves will help us to move on. What are we moving on to? If a person is not in a good situation or is having a rough time in life at the time then it's normal to feel sorry for ourselves but it should not be a ritual to go on, they either should better the situation and go on with life or sit and sulk and get nothing done.

People feeling sorry for themselves is almost a natural thing because everyone does it at a time in the life. Everyone is conscious about themselves and if they can't get something they feel sorry for themselves but trust me feeling sorry for yourself doesn't help it's better to try and get what you want by taking action. We should try to appreciate what we have and not feel sorry for ourselves. Evan the people around you affect your state of mind so if you are around people who who help keep your self esteem high you are on the right track.

I sense you're confusing feeling sorry for oneself with feeling guilty. Hope not. What does it mean to feel sorry for yourself? That, usually, is copping a plea for not taking responsibility for a past action. If you feel sorry for yourself because you were born blind, OK, that's understandable, but it's not OK to feel sorry for yourself if you're not doing well on the job, or your boyfriend/girlfriend doesn't understand you. In those cases, where you can change your destiny, feeling sorry for yourself is self-defeating. Be realistic about your dis-satisfactions, change what you can change, then get on with life.

positive thinking works.
Some of us were programed by our parents to be negative. We have tapes in our head that play over and over. Those negative words need to be changed. This is freedom of choice.

If you feel bad abouot yourself for too often, you might be in a depression. Check with your doctor

Then too many people would extend the time and we'd have a whole bunch of wussy people feeling sorry for themselves and wasting time.
