Water. That is pretty much all my son gets in his sippy cup. He is also breastfed. The amount of water she gets playing/practicing with a sippy cup while you eat dinner is not going to be enough to cause an undesired effects. With very young infants there is a risk of electrolyte imbalance 'water intoxication' but at 5.5 months I wouldn't worry about it at all. You can give her frozen breast milk slushies too, if you desire. Babies love picking up chunks of stuff and putting it in their mouths.

My daughter is now 17 months and whilst she grew to become into 12-13mos, i attempted making the swap to entire milk interior the sippy cup, despite the fact that if it did no longer artwork. She did no longer like the flavor of wm, so i desperate to do a splash formula and wm jointly in a bottle. The intial flavor wasn't too eye-catching to her, yet I continued to stand my floor with the a million/2 & a million/2. She is merely given a splash juice diluted w/water. My daughter does no longer basically like the sippy cup. She beverages from a everyday cup and the transition from the bottle to a reg. cup grew to become into accomplished in one day. i could no longer have faith it. My pediatrician pronounced that juice is probably no longer mandatory, she eats quite some unpolluted culmination extremely. She's allergic to exploit, so i attempted to locate meals wealthy in calcium.attempt the sippy cup every time she eats. wish this facilitates.

BOILED water is the best thing to give very young babies, especially in the summer, to keep up their fluids. You can also give them apple juice diluted with BOILED water. NEVER give them orange juice or soft drinks at this stage(Yes, I've seen this done by others). Orange juice has too much acid in it and soft drinks have too much sugar and other additives. Hope this helps.

Water. At 5 months I think juice is ok too. I gave my son a 4 oz bottle of water every day even as a small infant, he loves it and it's good for his kidney health. Glad she likes a sippy at that age. My son wouldn't take one til 9 months, but he broke himself from the bottle at 12 months. Good 4 U

At 5 1/2 mths I think your baby would be entertained with just about anything, even an EMPTY sippy cup. My girl was at least... Perhaps yours is harder to please. :-) Well, a little water would be the best bet if I were you since likely she wont drink much and it's harmful when given in larger quantities. A sip or two is fine. I bought my girl her own spoon/fork/knife set in plastic when she was around 6 or 7mths to keep her busy, and she loves them. Give her those and a plastic cup and she could entertain herself for a good 30min.

water is fine, we have given our son water (bottled) with and with out ice since about 6 months, we give him juice too, but I get my juice from places like Trader Joes where is is natural and the sugar content is low, but still cut it with some water.
as for keeping her busy at the table, we used to give our son when he was that small, one of his little plastic spoons and one of those kids bowls that sticks to the table (by suction) and he could "eat with us". or a couple of small toys, of course the spoon and toys got thrown on the floor a million times, but for the most part kept him occupied.

You can use juices for babies, because I do believe that they sale things like that for babies and I'm not trying to be smart with you. I'm just trying to help, because my baby's only a month old, and I give her water sometimes too. It's okay to give a baby water that's been boiled.
