Try working for the Rec department. Then you get to be outside and play sports.

Well I'm not from Kansas. I'm from California but I can tell you that I don't recommend fastfood unless it's a last resort. Unfortunately at 16, you need a work permit issued by your school and signed by parents/guardian in order to work. I would try a clothing store in a mall if they hire below 17 because they would close the store would be around 10 pm.. You would not have to worry about staying until midnight like in most fastfood chains. The biggest bummer no matter what job, unless you're really lucky is that your weekends are gone for good. It wasn't until after college that I got a 9 to 5 M-F type of gig. I would also try a real estate office that allows you to go part time after school doing data entry or something of that sort. Some will hire you if you're a sufficient typist and can handle basic Word and Excel programs. What I do strongly reccomend is working part time (unless you really need the money for other financial reasons) until you get the hang of school and work.. It's a big change that creeps up on you so good luck!

hello, for a 16 year old, you are restricted to a few occupations. Most common jobs for a 16 year old is Supermarkets, Restauraunts, and Other shops. Most those businesses will pay you about the same, minimum wage, maybe some will be .50 different at most. Just find osmething you feel may intrest you or benefit you, or choose one that you know you will really enjoy.
Good luck,
Allen

Working at a craft store like Michael's or Hobby Lobby can be cool because the clientele is generally laid-back. That goes a long way towards making your first work experience tolerable. Making $6 an hour is tough when the customers are pains in the butt, so it's something to keep in mind.

When I was 16, I worked at CiCi's pizza. I loved it, I've worked at a few foodplaces such as Tijuana Flats(Tex-Mex) and Winghouse (basically Hooters but the wings are better (I.M.O.).) I work with mentally disabled now and am only 18 but I loved working at all those food places. To me a restaurant would be the best place to work you get to meet new people and if you're making tips it's a plus. Friends of mine have worked at clothing retailers and aren't too fond of it, I have only helped my Aunt at her clothing store but didn't like that too much either. So all in all =D I would say a restaurant of some type would be the best place to work. Hope I helped! =D

Oh boy, you could probably work at a ton of different places.
There's regular resturants (i.e. sitdown resturants like Chili's, Applebees, Macaroni Grill, etc.) - where you'd probably end up being in the back washing dishes - or possibly bussing tables.
There's fast food resturants - McDonald's, Burger King, Wendy's, Arby's, etc. - where you'd probably end up doing quite a bit - you could work the register, cook, do drive thru, clean the dining area, it just depends.
One thing about working in the resturant business - you're expected to work fast. Think about it, when you goto a resturant, do you want to wait aroudn for your food? Absolutely not. If you're a dishwasher, you're going to get wet, and probably end up with wet shoes, wet pants legs, and feel water logged.
If you work at a fast food place - be prepared to come home feeling greasy, smelling likes pickles, etc. Again, you're expected to work fast - and not goof around while customers are waiting.
I worked at McDonald's when I was a teenager, and really enjoyed it. McDonald's has a pretty good training system - but a lot of it depends upon the "quality" of the resturant you work at (which ever fast food chain) - check it out, watch the people, see how hard they work, are they serious about their work, or do they just goof around - is the place dirty or messy? Then you're probably not going to want to work there.
There's also places like movie theaters, where you might take tickets, sell concessions, and clean up theaters after showings. One big side benefit is that you might be able to slide into a movie theater and watch a show (I don't know if that's frowned on or not). You might be able to get into movies for free too - depending upon who's working (if it's one of your friends).
There's also places like Kinko's - which is like a fast food version of a print shop. You're not going to get greasy or smell like pickles.
There's also retail, like book stores, or clothing stores - where you'd probably stock, and possibly work the register.
A lot of it depends upon what you'd like to do. Where do your friends work - do they like it?
Good luck to you!

try a fine dining restaurant they will teach you some manners and politeness. macdonalds and burger king teach you very little. what you want is something that will teach you some interpersonal skills and other things, dont go to fast food. even stores will do nothing but teach you to use a till and get up in the morning. Try to get an apprentiship in something if you are not going on to higher education. if you are going on to higher eduation do as i say and get some good life skills. hope this helps.

Check with your high school guidance counselor's office. Quite often employers call the schools looking for teens to work but they don't announce the jobs but rather wait for the industrious kids (like you) to ask about them. It's worth an introduction!!!

Mcdonalds will usually work with a school schedule, or if you know what you will be majoring in college (presuming you will go?) you might be able to get a cool internship somewhere
