Same: why is the university of washington often referred to as "u-dub"?

Of course the U is short for University and dub is a short for Double U "W" also DuB is slang for 20" rims that you put on your truck or car.

Technically the abbreviation for the University of Washington is supposed to be UW, but people shorten the 'W' to 'dub' making it U-Dub. (Apparently saying the letter 'w' is too much work.)

Same reason that Bush is referred to as dubya....People think that W = dubya, thereby meaning University of Washington = U-dub...Hope that helps.....
