Sometimes but usually not. The only way to REALLY know is if they tell you and nothing else. But you can stereotype by how people dress.

In a word, no, not necessarily. What you are probably referring to is what is called 'camp', and 'metrosexuality'. Camp covers a wide array of dress and behavior, but it generally refers to effeminate behavior, outlandish fashion, and a general "Fabulous!" sort of attitude and over-the-top appearance. Metrosexuality is a relatively new trend that encourages men to be more fashion-conscious and take better care of their appearance (getting facials, not being afraid to wear the color pink, clean crisp lines, manicured nails, etc.). Camp is almost exclusively aligned with the gay community, and metrosexuality, while having originated therein, has been expanded to straight men almost as a defense mechanism ("you can be straight and still look presentable!"). This is where the rumors begin about gays being trendy and hip, having incredible sense when it comes to fashion, interior design, etc.. That said, there just isn't such a rule that says it has to be that way. As said before, many metrosexuals are straight men, and campy dress may be worn by straight men as well (though rare). Moreover, MANY gay men are "straight-acting" (which doesn't actually mean they consciously alter their behavior, but that they don't naturally conform to gay stereotypes), who dress "normally" and you'd never be able to tell they were gay. There are extremely sloppy, dirty, throw-on-a-pair-of-jeans-and-T-shirt gays, and there are impeccable, high-fashion men who love women. As for women, this "gay-by-dress" rule falls even shorter. If 'butch' clothing is supposed to belie lesbianism, then you probably won't be able to tell. Women's fashion has slouched towards comfort and unisex until now a sweatshirt and jeans is common dress, which certainly makes it difficult to sort out butch lesbians from the average sloppy, comfort-seeking girl (although hair might help a bit). There are also femme lesbians, girls who dress very femininely and are also "straight-acting" like their gay male counterparts. Long gone is the 'lesbian uniform' of flannel shirts and Birkenstocks.

Long story short, there are lesbians who dress masculinely and are easy to spot, and there are men who dress very campy and are similarly identified. However, there are a LOT more that you never even see, because for them sexual orientation has more to do with the genitals and sex they like than behavior, fashion, etc.. The best way to find out is still just to politely approach someone and ask: "Excuse me, but are you sexually attracted to boys or girls?" ;)

No, although, gay men tend to take care of themselves and many straight men don't think that's important. Which is why they sit at home on computers at night instead of being on dates with girls.

sometimes, other times, they put on a show for you, I know my brother inlaw sure did, if he was with his wife, he acted like a man, but when they seperated, he started acting like a woman.
