Every time we have a test in my history class, my history teacher (Mrs. Scott), reads out our name and test score because it's faster than handing them all out, and she tells us to just write it down in this test record thing she gave us.

She also tells us our rank in the class (it comes from a computer thing in the school, based on the percentage so far in that subject). She read mine out today, and out of 32 kids in the class, I came at 26. I find this really embarassing, and I don't like other people knowing what my marks our.

I don't want to tell her because she's really strict and she probley won't be too happy if I told her.

What do I do? I don't want other people knowing my grades anymore.

By the way, I'm not dumb, it's just history isn't my best subject. I'm really good at other subjects though.

But the kids who come at like 32 on the ranking, are all "OHHH HA HA IM 32" ... there usually the loud popular people. But I don't like them knowing because I try hard to pass history because I'm not good at it, and I still do bad.

Oh and no other teachers do it out loud. The other teachers just hand our our ranks on a piece of paper that comes off a computer. And other teachers just hand the tests back.

What your teacher is doing is wrong. And I think that you are right..asking her to stop might make her mad. I think you should talk to your parents about this, and tell them to speak not with the teacher, but perhaps with a vice principal. Are your parents sympathetic to you on this? They should be, and if they are not you should try to explain to them that noone does well in school when they are publicly humiliated. If the people at the school want to give your parents any crap about this, then tell your parents to mention the Buckley Amendment (which addresses student privacy w/ respect to grades) and No Child Left Behind, specifically AYP, or adequate yearly progress. All that being said, try your best- take notes, ask questions, whatever it takes. Maybe your teacher could make better use of class time than reading grades aloud.

Unfortunately this is life.... I work in sales and this type of exposure tactic is designed to "motivate" you to do better , playing on the embarrassment factor, kind of name and shame. This happens in the real world, sales figures are pinned on our company notice board so ALL can see how you are performing! This is great for the high flyers, but not so motivating for the lower end, in fact quite demoralising.

I suggest you tell your parents how you are feeling, always a good start, and they might be able help you raise your grades, imagine how good it would be to be in the top 10??? also they could have a quiet word with the teacher.

I think this is really wrong of Mrs Scott, you should be encouraged to do your best, and praised for it. Does the School Principle agree with this type of thing?

Best of luck, happy studying!!

Well, finally a person who gives out all the reasons for the question. First, you have rights as a student and one of them is privacy. However, you must also be respectful. See her after school and explain to her how you feel and why. Also ask her what she thinks you need to do to improve your grades, you may find out something about yourself that will help you in the long run. If she refuses, do not argue with her but go to the next person in line, ie vice principal, or principal. If you are still not satisfied, do not be afraid to go to the superintendent of schools or the school board. You have those rights, but do not blow it by getting angry and making threats.

Well, the worst she can do is keep reading out your marks, but what I;d do is get a group of our friends and confront her together. I'm sure there are more people in your boat (ie, #s 27-32)! Hope this helped.

Ask your teacher nicely to not tell your answer out loud. Ask her for your answer that way the class won't know what grade you make. You shouldn't be scared. God is always with you. Don't forget your manners!!

Go speak to one of the guidance counselors at school. In my experience, embarrassment is not a great motivator.

Also, it's nice to get your test back so you can learn from your mistakes and perform better on the midterm/final.

Good luck!

egg her car everytime she does this. eventually, if she's smart, she'll stop doing this. OR have your parents call your principal and demand she stop this action immediately. if you want to be embarassed in front of your peers, you'll have plenty of oportunities later on in college. for now, this lazy method of grading isn't helping you out any.

She is invading your privacy. Talk to her after school about it. If she continues, have your parents call the principal. Your teacher is very wrong to do that.
