If the processor supports 64-bit computing it's allright to install xp pro 64-bit. You should be carefull! Not every software out there is compatible with 64-bit arhitecture and even if Microsoft included a 32-bit emulator with this release doens't mean they will work on it! It's like running old DOS applications (16-bit) on xp for example...
To determine if the CPU is 64-bit compatible download cpu-z from the internet and it will tell you everything you need to know.

You would need a 64bit processor this is the AMD 64fx chip exists in some laptops today. Still you may want to install Windows 32 bit anyway. The performance gain is not juge unless you use certain intense programs which are 64bit compatable. Windows 64 bit has been known to have driver issues.

you want to position in XP professional, no longer the sixty 4 bit version. now to not many drivers are written for the sixty 4 bit style, you would in basic terms have issues attempting to get your old classes to run . also, make particular you've the hot drivers on your computer from HP accessible(obtain from website) before you trash the Vista set up, i does no longer attempt to twin boot both.
