The American Goth scene has been totally destroyed by one simple clothing store . . . "Hottopic". Why is it everyhere you go there are Goths who are seen wearing this clothing and labeling themselves "Gothic"? I personally think that American Goths are stupid. Now, me being part American and Gothic, I would know of this. There are so many out there saying "My favorite store is Hottopic, and btw, Im Gothic so f*ck off and leave me alone! No one can tell me what to do!" I just want to know the answer to this question.

Hot Topic goths are almost exclusively teenagers. I give them a break since know one knows anything when they're teens (I know I didn't) but its so annoying that they think they understand a complex and longstanding subculture just because they shop at a particular store. No real goths shop at Hot Topic, they buy clothing from small retailers or make the clothing themselves.

Yeah...im not Goth, but i totally agree. its like overkill...not the store itself, but the reputation it got ruined everything. its been harshly steryotyped.. and its not only gothic clothing, but punk and other stuff too... and its annoying.
it killed "gothic" the same way MTV killed music; first it was a statement, a feeling, an expression... now, its an overused overdone and harshly abused cliche. (i meant music and gothic clothing, by the way...)
yeah, thats another thing... any joe schmoe thinks he can stroll into Hottopic and grab himself a buttload of black clothes and new eyeliner that gives his mother a heartattack.... and he all of a sudden thinks hes gothic. no.
the origional gothics... kudos. not the fake hottopic kind, who give the rest of you a bad name.
anyways my point is that hottopic was origonallt a good idea, but like silly putty, the TV show Wife Swap, and spray on stockings, it turned out to be a very stupid move becase certain morons in our society misuse it and ruin it for everyone.

Everytime I've ever been past that store at the mall there are kids there who are either extremely emo or call themselves "gothic." It's just mainly a label. The store is dark, they sell some dark stuff that most people don't wear so people who really don't know any better are going to say, "Hey, dark clothes. I like 'em. I'm gonna wear them and call myself some weird name. Hey, I'm gothic." They sell Lord of the Rings t-shirts and Elmo shirts there too.

Goth is what you want it to be.you do not might want to be into the song, the social scene, or lack of life icons. it is often characterized by technique of individuality and self expression. Goths are literally not sheep, you are able to blend and journey without worry. I positioned on black, pink, silver, and heels yet i'm no longer into the song or the countless the different stuff. i might want to probable type myself as Goth in visual attraction many of the time. i'm 31 by technique of ways so that you do not might want to be youthful to be Goth both! once you've that individuality and little difficulty about conformance then you actually sound Goth in outlook to me :) i did not answer about the garments mag because i'm no longer particular the position in the international you're, yet i might want to signify on line like you've already seen.

its funny you ask that because hottopic is owned by gap, which to me is the antithesis of goth. maybe some just need to take a good look at themselves, whether they like to follow a trend(hottopic) or if thats the only place they can find things to express themselves

Fashion Goths shop there. It's all about the scene for them.

As far as everybody else is concerned, they just love to label. They think EVERYTHING needs a label. They don't know what else to call it, so they call it Goth.

because its all chains..spikes...black...fishnet...weird kiddy like cartoons..and red..I however...never thought of hot topic as actual goth store if it helps..its too commercial..its for the ..poser goth..or..the "im a non conformnist that dresses like all the other non conformist" goths..kids who want to be different from the preps and cheerleaders..but still all fit in with each other..but thats just my opinion..i would say goth is a state of mind..not like..a clothing style..although that is part of it..

Lack of knowledge and good marketing on Hot Topic's part. It's just another store to me and everyone else who realises shopping there doesn't make you goth, punk or emo. Good for you for not being fooled.

I don't know, but those people have probably never been inside a Hot Topic store. I mean they sell rainbow brite and sesame street t-shirts, nothing gothic about that is there.
