Normally, no. Most women ovulate 12-16 days before their period and the egg has a life span of only about 24 hours. Once the egg is dead, you're infertile for the rest of your cycle. And if for some reason you were to ovulate much later in your cycle, your post-ovulatory (or luteal) phase wouldn't be long enough to support implantation, meaning your egg might be fertilized, but it wouldn't implant and begin to grow into a baby.

The problem with relying on this is that you don't really know your period is actually coming in a few days, even if it's due. Stress, illness, travel and other factors can cause your ovulation to be delayed. Since the luteal phase is pretty consistent within any individual woman, your period would be similarly late. But you wouldn't have any way of knowing you actually ovulated during a time when you shouldn't be fertile until it was too late and you were unexpectedly pregnant.

So, if you're trying to get pregnant, a few days before your period is not the time to try, but if you're trying NOT to get pregnant, don't rely on it being a safe time.

Theoretically, a women can get pregant during ANY day of their cycle. It is, however, more probable during certain days. You probably wouldn't get pregnant within 2-3 days before your period but it is still possible.

Technically, yes...but I beleive the "flow" winds up expelling any egg that would have wound up fertilized.
