Do you think that is more likely than the uranium-tip armor piercing shells that were in use for the first time during that war? Diet cola is still pretty cheap so I would think that there would be a lot of people who drink it without being in that war. However I haven't heard that people at home also got Gulf War Syndrome.
I also haven't heard that diet cola was given to troops for free.

I have heard that the Gulf War was started as a popularity incentive by a senile autocrat in USA.
It is very possible that his senility has been enhanced by exposure to free Diet Coke, but that may be an apocryphal story.
