i'm 13 and this is my first year of pointe. i've done ballet for years and i'm pretty flexable but i just seem to not be able to get all the way up on my box. no matter how much i stretch i just can't seem to get all the way up on my box. so what kind of strectches do y'all suggest? also, what could i do to help strenghten up my right ankle?
thanks a ton.

It's not to do with stretching, it's to do with strength. You need to do lots of barre work. Face the barre and rest both hands on it to balance, but don't put any weight on your hands. With your feet in first imagine that you have a piece of string attached to the top of your head, pulling you up to the ceiling. make sure that your abdominals are tight and your buttocks are tight and gradually rise through your insteps onto your toes. I am sure your ballet teacher will be showing you these exercises. Some girls look as though it is easy because they have a high instep, but they do not always have the strongest feet in the end. It may take you longer to get there, but it will be better when you do. Keep practising!

Do a lot of supported releves, eleves, entrechacotts, Use a theraband to pull back your feet and to point in and pull up. Make sure your shoes are fitted professionally so that you have the proper shoes for your style feet and all the proper support. Break in your shoes at first by working in them and learn what makes your feet comfortable and working in the best way. Ask your teacher to observe you going up. He/she may be able to make some suggestions or adjustments in your box, in your ribbon and your elastics so that everything is in the best place for your feet. Lie with your stomach on the floor, point your toes, and press up with your toes, arching your feet. Read the Pointe Book by Janice Barringer and Pointe by Thalia Mara. Do lots and lots of sit ups so that your center is strong enough to pull you up.

First see a physio to see if your ankles are strong enough for pointe ......rising on the barre in your pointes will strenghten the ankles, but there is sooo much more to pointe, if your posture is not correct you can hurt yourself, all streghtening excercises should be done infront of a FULLY QUALIFIED teacher before you do them on your own

Hi there, For strengthening your ft, factor you feet! When you consume, whilst you're looking t.v., at the laptop, in institution, approximately to fall asleep...factor the ones feet! I have began doing it for approximately every week now and it will get simpler. At first it you will not be ready to preserve them pointed lengthy (cramps) however after a even as you're going to be ready to factor them for terribly lengthy intervals of time (after every week I can factor them for 20 minutes with out cramps). Remember to preserve pointing till they begin to burn (that implies the muscle is operating and strengthening). For the ankles, stand at the fringe of stair or a massive phonebook so your heels dangle off. Rise for your fullest demi factor after which drop down so far as your heels will move. Do 30 of those releves very slowly (it hurts extra and works extra) then do a deep plie. Do three units of the 30 releves. Once 30 is effortless, up it to 50, then seventy five, then one hundred. Or take a look at uping the units as an alternative of quantity of releves. Like 6 units of 30 releves (ouch!). Also, purchase a theraband (or recreation band), wrap it round one foot, factor and roll by way of demi to flex. Do this 15-30 occasions in line with foot. You too can tie the band round your ft and do releves. Like tie it round your ft (to not tight or it's going to snap!) stand in first and do 15-30 releves. Then do the leisure of the positions. You can more commonly inform if any one can stand on releve in all positions for 30 seconds as a minimum that their ankles are powerful. Especially if they may be able to move on releve with one foot in coupe. While they dance, their ankles cannot wobble in any respect. Hope this is helping, have a exceptional day!! =)
