Raising the minimum wage would be a mistake. The market place needs to determine wages; otherwise everyone will needlessly pay more for things. Where I live in IL, our min wage is already a little bit higher than the Federal one and there is no one even paying it that I know of. Even McDonalds pays more than $2 over the min wage. I imagine there are places in the south where the cost of living is less and companies can pay min wage, but even then it’s probably only to teenagers and illegals. Where I live, they are almost always hiring at retail stores and fast food places even when they pay considerably above min wage. When they can’t get enough people to work, they will have to raise their wages again. That is how it should work. Even Wal-Mart pays $8/hr entry level. The people who benefit the most from the low prices at places like McDonalds and Wal-mart are the one’s who would be hurt the most with forced min wages. They will pay more for everything just so some teenagers with a job can afford more I-pods and other toys.
I’m a Republican - but not registered as one. I used to vote for both parties depending on the candidates platform, but now that the radical Hollywood left and Rich billionaire socialists have taken over the Democrat Party I’ll vote straight Republican no matter what.
I’m probably considered middle class. My husband is a Union Worker and I have a college degree but left my career to raise my son. I work semi- professionally part time from home.

We should raise the minimum wage so that one breadwinner working 40 hours a week can keep a family of 4 above the poverty line.
I've been a registered republican for 10+ years, and have a 6-figure income.
