Not a Blair-ite but I would like to see what people think about a scenario where Blair did not join forces with Bush. If Bush had gone in alone I cannot imagine how things would have been different for,
a) for the unfortunate Iraqis
b) Sadaam
c) the threat of terrorism in the UK/West, given the general anti-West sentiment communiciated by certain muslims.

Question- has Blair actually been able to moderate Bush's action plan? We will never know........

If Bush best friend had advised him not to go to Iraq:
- the lives of 655000 inocent civilians could have been saved
-the lives of 3000 American soliders could have been saved
-the lives of 125 British soldiers and hundreds of other foreign nationalities who got killed in Iraq could have been saved.
-We would not have seen ugly and brutal prisons like Abu Ghreib.
-the sectarian war in Iraq could have been avoided.
-a more safe world with western and arabs live together in peace.
-Madrid and 7/7 in london would not have happened.
-less anti muslims attitude in Europe and America.
-may be another 4 years of Tony Blair in the government!

I don"t think that Tony Blair had any influence over GW. I think he went in with him because if he didn"t the British companies would not get a "slice of the cake". GW was going in regardless. Remember the excuse was Weapons of Mass Destruction. Since then the reason has been given that Saddam was evil and needed removing from power. It is true, he was evil, but that is no reason to invade. There are many evil dictators in our World, but we haven"t invaded their countries. The only reason Bush invaded Iraq was for the oil, and of course at the behest of Halliburton and the Armament Industry. The problem in Iraq now, apart from the presence of the Western military, is that the 3 main factions have been freed from the iron fist of Saddam and are now flexing their muscles to try and gain control. It"s just a shame for the innocent Iraqi population caught up in the struggle for power and resources.

The reasons why Blair followed Bush will only be known in about a hundred years as that's how long the records will be sealed for. I think most open minded people are now realising that most of Blair's actions are because he is confused about being the Pope and thinks he is infallible also.

What lead Blair to help Bush, no one will know
But most likley the Bush administration hyped up intelloigence (or is it all eavesdropping ?) and illustrated that UK was in threat also.
So Blair got sucked into the whirlwind of it all and hence the tornado struck UK as it did in NY

Why are the Iraqi's unfortunate? The majority of them are actually grateful. Do you agree with what Saddam did to all those innocents before he was captured and brought to justice? The threat to the west has always been there regardless of the Bush Blair intervention.

Moderating his plan. 650000 dead and still counting. 3 towns flattened completely. 1500000 people displaced and in refugee camps. Not a squeak from the UN. Well moderate I say!
