Unfortunately, too many Americans blindly trust this government (right-wingers and Fundamentalist Christians) which is why we are seeing a rise in fascism in America. Many of them believe that dissent with the government's policies is anti-American, and they use smear tactics, threat tactics, or shout-you-down tactics of the kind you see in the audience on the Jerry Springer Show. That's called Fascism.

Responsible Americans always question what are government is doing. It's not trust/mistrust. It's a sense of responsibility. The government works for us and it should never be the other way around.

I trust my elected officals to do what they should, but I also trust my watch dogs, mostly the media, to keep an eye on them. There is also the FBI, CIA, and other groups that watch the elected officals to do their jobs. Even Homeland Security people are watched over.
