it doesn't really. That's what's recommended. You can sleep a half hour so long as it's been a good rejuvenating sleep although that's not recommended on a daily basis to be healthy. But i have a regular sleep of around 5 hours a night. It's good enough for me.

It doesn't but 8 hours is considered enough time to allow the body to repair damage caused by every day living .

we dont need 8hrs -some would say thats too much and only 6 - 7 hrs is sufficient for our bodies to be rested and repaired.
it also depends on when you sleep - your body does most of its repairing between midnight and 2am

Everybody is different I have between 5 and 6 hours if lucky and it's OK for me think that is just what we are told as recommended

8 hours is just arrived at statistically. Each ones needs are unique to themselves.

Some days I am fine with a lot less sleep, other times it seems to hit me. Kinda weird.

It also depends on the quality of sleep you get. We are supposed to hit REM stage for the best sleep.

i hate sleep,so i dont get much ^_^ (to my mums dismay!LOL) i think im ok though,i do okish at school (when i need to...i just dont need to that much^_^lol) umm...i LOVE sports and i like being happy and hyper alot of the time! i think i get....5 6 or 7 hours sleep a night...hope i helped^_^

Good question, i think its because the body needs to be refreshed. But some people dont need sleep ..... at ALL !!
