Two perspectives.
1. Friends are the doors and you are the henges. You stay together no matter how far they swing.
2. Doors go back in forth. Friends swing back and forth. Friends aren't always on your side. They end up breaking a promise, or stabbing you in the back, or just found a "better friend" for now. But they normaally come back sooner or later.

I dont know if this is what you were looking for but I hope it helps.

Friendship is like doors because when you meet new people you are "opening a door for new people, or opportunities" When you make new friends, they have emotional impacts on your life in certain ways. They could help you get jobs, be a better person, and so on.( I had the same question when I was her age.)

I guess by saying hello to a stranger one might be opening the door for a new friendship.
