I had the exact same problem, however it was with a '98 ford explorer. Check your tranny filter (or have your mechanic do it) have it changed if needed with new tranny fluid.
If that doesn't fix your problem, then yes your tranny is shot and you will either need to have it rebuilt or get a new one. However I would suggest checking into a rebuilt/remanufactured one, they are a lot cheaper and usually come with a good warrenty if you purchase it from someplace like advance or autozone. there are also many places online that you can get them as well, and are just as good if not better. Not to mention you can get upgraded ones for about the same price as going to the auto parts stores.
good luck

On that new of a truck it is unlikely, but check that the linkage on the transmission isn't bent. If it was a 4WD vehicle and they didn't have the skid plates installed, it's possible a rock or other object is obstructing or outright bent the linkage. Also check the fluid level.
Barring those, find a good transmission place and hope that it's minor damage - also confirm with the dealership (via your truck VIN#) that there were no known issues with that model year that may still have it covered under warranty. The transmissions and drive-trains tend to be covered far longer than the other items in the truck, even if you bought it used...
Good Luck!

I had a similar problem on my 96 Dodge Ram. I found that if I gave it a little gas, it would jerk into gear. My mechanic said I need to have the transmission rebuilt. I think that's what you're looking at too.

interior the greater moderen fashions, 2000 and up, there's a "burger king" hat, or reaction solar look after...i think of that's the actual call for it...besides, that's a undemanding subject. you are able to call your interior reach GM broking and ask if there are any TSB's (which isn't a bear in mind) concerning your failure. If it falls into the class, ask them for a replica of it, you will need practise on what to do. in the event that they gained't provide you a replica, you are able to acquire it by way of Alldata or Mitchell On call for, in case you have or no somebody who has get entry to to those classes.
