I just has total abdominal hysterectomy. I went to have staples removed from my abdomen today. The dr. told me that there is possibly a blood clot under the incision. I have heard about blood clots in the legs after these things but not under the incision. Should I be concerned? Dr. didn't seem concerned. He says the body will break it up on it's own, but hearing things about clots breaking off little bits and going to lungs, heart or brain scares the heck out of me.

No worries!!!

Blood clots in the veins and arteries can cause problems, like a pulmonary embolus (to the lungs) or a stroke (to the brain).
However, blood clots under a surgical incision CANNOT do this. This blood is NOT in the veins or arteries, and neither can it get INTO the circulatory system. The clots are in the interstitial tissue and will break up on their own, dissolving away.

Rarely, these pockets of blood can get infected...but this is usually easily taken care of as well with antibiotics or simple incision and drainage at a doctor's office. Doubtful that this will happen.

But even so, don't at all be concerned at all about these clots getting into your circulatory system and causing problems. This is impossible. There aren't any "holes" big enough in veins and arteries for these incisional clots to get into!

Hope this alleviates your concerns...

might simply be a small field of scar tissue. did you could have inner stitches as good as floor stitches? for the reason that it's feasible that certainly one of you interior stitches did not heal effectively and demands to be excised... i Had that challenge and that i suggestion my health care provider referred to as it a granduloma? i finished up having to have the complete scar eliminated and pulled tight to re-near. a few are benign however a few can get abscessed and infect your blood. probabilities are it's not anything however please do have it checked. well good fortune!
