Very simple answer but will require some "elbow grease". Buy a product called TSP and follow directions. I like to use a sponge mop because it is easier on my shoulders and arms. Just don't push too hard because you don't want to damage the paint. It is a good product and will not drive you out with obnoxious odors and dangerous gasses. After doing the walls, the windows will look bad too. Just use a little vinegar and water (or plain water will work as well), clean and dry off your windows. Before you know it, the house will be nice and fresh and you will love looking out your clean windows!

I've always relied on using Mr. Clean Magic Eraser Duo for scrubbing off dirt from walls or even floors. It's effective. Just rinse the whole area with water after you apply the cleaning solution. You can also learn more product tips and details from this site http://www.upkb.com/mrclean.php

There is this spray called Mean Green we just cleaned my grandmas house with , she is a heavy heavy smoker and this stuff is great. Things that we thought were brown, actually had color. It makes cigarette smoke just run right off the walls. If you have walls painted in flat paint though it is probably hopeless though. Mr. Clean Magic Erasers are the bomb too!!

Get a sponge mop, a pail, and some **** and Span. It does wonders on jobs like yours. Mix the **** and Span dip in the mop and start with the ceiling because most of the smoke and vapors will be there. Then go for the walls. Change the water often. It will be disgusting and you will probably vow to quit smoking when you are done.

You can clean your walls and prep for paint in one step if you use TSP(Trisodium phosphate) detergent and hot water.. The TSP is a very good cleaner and prep for walls and ceilings. Use vinyl gloves and the hottest water you can tolerate. Start at the bottom of the wall and work up the wall cleaning as you go. I've had friends and clients see the end results of such a cleaning and opt to fore go painting all together. Good luck

i use dishliquid the has grease frighting in it. if your walls are white it might not work though. add a little bleach to the water at the same time and rinse really good. if anything it will smell better, when you paint next year consider a green color with a hint of yellow.

you can use bleach cleaners or 409 or something
maybe nail polish remover (acetone) would work, but it would smell
so buy lots of air fresheners too and keep your windows open for a few days
and while you smoke too.
