Besides 'clean the @#$* up,' I mean. Is there anything a clutter-lover who can ignore mess can do to make your life easier, assuming that person is unlikely to fundamentally change?

Ahem -- I'M the slob.

I'm trying. I bought a floor-washing robot; we're moving to a bigger house (the anti-clutter among you will cringe at that, yes), but...

LOL!!

Oh honey, I hear ya!!!
i am the slob in my "odd-couple" relationship.
and my hubby is not only a neat person, he is an absolute neat and clean FREAK!!!
Fortunately for him, before we moved in together, I sold my house and liquidated 90% of my belongings and lived in a 28ft RV for two years. (which means i learned to live with a lot less "stuff" .. and survived!)

My suggestions are:
DO pick up after yourself as far as dishes, trash, etc. Just make a habit when you get up of taking these things in, rinsing the dishes, throwing away the trash, etc.
DO have a laundry basket handy where you take off your clothes and put them in it rather than the floor, and get in habit of hanging up things immediately from the laundry, and from disrobing.
DO get in the habit of shutting doors, turning off lights, lining up shoes, and washing off counters if you left a mess (even a little one).

If you do these things, then it will be a little easier for your partner to tolerate your craft and artsy clutter, and other clutter spots.

Oh, and make sure s/he has a place of their own that they can keep absolutely as neat as a pin and you never go near .. it can be an entire room, a corner, or just a spot on the counter or a table/desk.

BTW....he does the housework and laundry ... even the ironing. I do the finances, planning, keeping track of appointments and dates, and things like that. The arrangement works for us both. Part of the trick in co-habitating as opposites in this way is to agree who is doing what ... and be happy with it.

No, it would be easier for the neat person to just clean it up!

Tell the person he needs to start cleaning up after himself and if he doesn't you're going to start throwing away all their belongings that are not picked up.
