Scientists make predictions according to theories. A great example was the testing of Einstein's General Theory of Relativity, which predicted that since light bends around massive bodies then two stars that should be behind the sun would appear to be on either side of the sun during a total lunar eclispe. When the event occurred the stars were where they were predicted to be, not where they normally are. If the prediction proved false then the theory would have had unresolved problems. Go Einstein (not Albert but his wife)!

Observation and experimentation results in a hypothesis.
This hypothesis is tested over time and if a counterexample is found then it is either modified or discarded. If no counterexample is found after significant time thenm it is accepted as a scientific law
Ths is the scientific principle on which all sciences operate.
So if its not close the counterexamples would be swamping the hypothesis (theory) postulated

Some things it is easy to know that science is mostly correct (if not completely correct). Like how procreation happens, that the heart pumps blood...things that we can observe.
When it comes to the science of medicine, outer space, and other things that are not so obvious, we just have to wait and see what the future proves!?

If, after repeating the same steps several times you get roughly the same result, you are more inclined to believe something is causing that result. If, after preeating the same step several thousand times you get the same result, there is little to no reason to think that the answer is wrong.
