I've recently got a 20inch iMac (had it for about two weeks now), before I had an older Apple for about 3 years. In relation to the comment above that Apple's are hard to get the hang of, trust me, they're not. The Macintosh platform not only allows you to use a computer easily, but it allows you to enjoy yourself. Mac OS X has so many innovative features that just make using a computer so simple, it's the small things that just make me go wow.
I would seriously recommend getting the new iMac, with the new Intel Core 2 Duo processors it's fast! The next Mac operating system features a program called 'Bootcamp' which allows you to run Windows as well as Mac OS X (and by then you won't want to, trust me).
My Apple just works all the time, on Windows you'll constantly give it commands but it will remain unresponsive (e.g. clicking on an X to close a Window but it just does nothing). Everything is simple on a Mac, all of the programs are integrated with each other. I'm being serious when I say trivial tasks are just enjoyable on the Mac.
You get a load of cool software with the iMac, iPhoto allows you to import your photos and produce books and calendars that are sent away and professionally made for you.
If you have any more questions, you can get in contact with me, I understand buying a new computer is a large decision as it's such a huge purchase.
In my opinion Windows is a chore to use, it's not enjoyable like the Mac and I get frustrated at those who criticise the Mac when they've probably never looked at one, let alone used one.

Macs are the best of the best. I have two Macs, myself. I love them. They are worth every penny. Imagine, never having to worry about a virus again. Nice thought, eh?

IDK but I wish I could get one. Currently using a PowerBook G4 Mac OSX 10.4 and loving it. If you decide to get the iMac, I'd suggest you get the Apple Care with it, just in case. You won't regret it if you do :-)

hard to learn. tried it. don't recommend it. linux is worse, though. since windows is the norm. i would stick with that as it is compatable with the majority of the software on the market. but there are pros & cons.
