My CD-RW drive door will not open. It has a CD in it. I tried to format the CD (thinking that might allow me to open the drive door), but I got the message that the format failed due to damaged media. How can I get the drive open to remove the CD?

I've tried the pinhole method...it tries to open, but can't. I think tomorrow I take the thing apart and see if I can remove the cd rom drive then get at the cd that way. thanks for the responses. Right now I can't even use the computer because it is trying to read the cd-rom drive when it reboots and just gets stuck.

If you observe, there is a small hole in front of the CD ROM.
Put a pin in it, press little hard and the tray will come out a little.
Pull out the tray.
(The tray will come out even if ur system is switched off)
Don't worry, it won't harm your CD ROM or your CD media
Few Sony DVD Writers come with replacable panels (to change the colour), so this is a good method.

Better try to reset the pc and press the open button. But if it doesn't open then check for a hole on the CD-RW drive door. Get a money clip, strench it and try to push it into that hole. When it opens a bit pull it and it will open.

There's a tiny pinhole on the front of the drive that triggers an automatic release. Stick a pin in it, and the drive should open.
But, before you do that, have you tried restarting your computer? It's unusual for cd drives to stick...

Usually there is a small hole in front of the CD-Drive. Take a needle, or something small enough for the hole, and poke into the hole. It should open the door.

I think the door is jammed. There is a small hole underneath the door, get a paperclip stretch it and push it through the pin hole. it will open the door slightly, then just pull it out. Your cooling fan is working harder because of accumulated dust inside the fan and heatsink (the aluminum thing under the fan). I suggest you clean it.

Release it by putting a pin in the small hole on the drive cover.

There should be screws, and somtimes it's like a pill bottle where you have to push down and out to a certain direction to get the lid to come off.
