I don't find your question offensive- I give it the benefit of the doubt of being curious, which is perfectly acceptable. I didn't watch the whole of the video, but that's mostly because I can imagine what the rest of it is like. I got the point.

Question 1- I don't know why there is no straight pride month. The better question, perhaps, would be why there is a gay pride month. In my opinion, it is there not so much to celebrate and be proud of homosexuality, but to increase and boost gay visibility, which is quite necessary given that so many ignorant myths, viscious lies, and pure bashing and violence are perpetrated against them. In theory, there SHOULD be a straight pride month (actually, I'm in favor of a 'sexual month'- one month to celebrate the beautiful diversity of sexual desire and love, which includes the oft-left-out bisexuals). However, as someone else pointed out, most months are straight pride month, by default.

Question 2- Oh, but there are straight pride parades. See www.straightpride.com. (But I don't advocate the site because there purpose isn't actual straight PRIDE but straight SUPERIORITY). Also, this ties in somewhat with the third question- what would a straight pride parade consist of? Oh yeah- people walking. And, um, maybe girls kissing guys, guys kissing girls. And more walking. That's about it.

Question 3- gays don't need to act like that to celebrate gay pride month. Of course they don't. (In fact, you should read this forum: http://main.bisexual.com/forum/showthread.php?t=2029, which discusses the very issue. I weigh in there.). There are gays who find such behavior vile. Unforunately, for good or bad, camp (that wild, effeminate, fabulous dress and behavior) is automatically associated with homosexuality, as are other things, like 1) BDSM, 2) leather, 3) drag, 4) nightclub/party scenes, 5) promiscuity/polyamory, 6) extreme sexual practices (fisting, felching, etc.). Because these aspects are so closely tied in with the gay scene, many feel that "toning down" that expression is equal to suppressing gay pride, and that they should be taken as they are, not as what is palatable to straight "normal" people. They celebrate what most people look down on, and October is the month to do it. And like I said above-if gays didn't act campy, get in drag and costumes, and act that way, but had a parade- how in God's name would you know it? You'd just see a bunch of people walking down the street- people who happened to like sex with members of the same gender. I'm not saying it's a good or bad thing that camp has come to represent the gays . . . just laying out the information.

P.S.- I also like to think that a parade is a parade. They should be fun, and that certainly looks like a party that's being thrown in that youtube.com video!

Why would you NEED a "straight pride?"

Think about it, heteros do indeed dominate every aspect of life. From the Media to what is taught in schools, from religious fables to fairietales.
Heterosexual "lifestyle" is fully emeshed with human culture.

Homosexual history has been rewritten and washed over with lies, hate and ignorance.

You have your "pride" months, days, parades. But they're called other things. St. Patrick's day, Mardi Gras and all those other parades, holidays...etc.

Well, clearly it is about gay pride in Amsterdam. What is gay pride? The celebration of freedom and diversity and at the same time it is also a reminder to society at large that the community exists and continues to fight for freedom for all everywhere.

Just as most minority groups have their own pride celebrations and/or events, so do that of the GLBT community. The heterosexual community does not need such a celebration because they are neither a minority nor are they discriminated against in society and so there is nothing to fight for or celebrate in diversity when it is based on something that is neither of those two. However, heterosexual friends and family are invited to attend and participate without discrimination.PFlag(Parents, Families, and Friends of Lesbian And Gays) is among those who participate.

Gay Pride is a time where all gay people can unite and show pride for who they are. Straight people celebrate their lifestyle by living their everydays lives. Straight people are the majority and are not harrassed for being straight. It's considered normal to be straight. Just like Black History Month or Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Black people are should and are proud to be black all year long but designating a time of the month allows peopl to express themselves more freely during that time. It's all for a cause or celebration of defeat or struggle.

And NOT all gay people choose to dress up like "queens" and dance in the street. Look at everyone else besides them and you might be able to realize that. It's for show...for celebration of equality and peace. If you don't like it don't watch it. But you gotta watch it cause we are here, we're queer...get used to it.

Every month is "straight pride month" - you are always flaunting your sexuality in front of us, putting in on all the media, magazines, newspapers, etc.

Most parades are "straight pride parades." A perfect example is the New York City St. Patrick's Day parade, in which LGBT people are specifically banned from participation.

Youi expect us not to be defensive when you attack us? Please think about this.

LGBT people celebrate when they are together and united against bigotry and discrimination as evidenced in your question.

1. Because every other aspect of society is totally dominated by hets.
2. Because you are boring and lack style.
3. See #2.

Addtl details.

OK so you people don't throw big weddings to show you are entering a hetero relationship, you don't wear wedding rings, you don't constantly chant my wife my wife my wife my husband my husband my husband my kids my family blah blah my boyfriend my girlfriend. You don't constantly demonstrate physical affection in public, I must be hallucinating.

TV, magazines, books, and movies aren't saturated with images and depictions of hetero relationships.

You never talk about dating or who you like or who is going out with whom among other straight people.

No one who knows you is sure what your sexuality is, because you keep it that secret, like all heteros.

Look honey, this "why don't we have a str8 pride month" is the oldest code in the world for "I have an agenda." Your feigned naievete is just so passe and has been tried and refuted a thousand times. Compared to the real world, it is laughable. No one will buy it so drop the act.

I didn't even touch on religion or inequality in politics. You're too funny!

More additional details:

Damn did I hand it to you. And trust me dear, it is the intellectual dishonesty that bugs me, not your quaint little 14th century opinions. I detest poor thinking.

It's a celebration to show that the GLBT community is here and it's much larger than people think. It's also to support newbies just coming out and to let them know that they're not alone.

Actually YES, you are trying to offend people, simply by your jocular attitude. You don't walk up and self identify as being heterosexual because that is the assumption people make automatically. when you get harassed, have people fire you, try to evict you from your apartment, be beaten up, illegally arrested, have your cars vandalized, for being straight, you can have your parade and month.

I am a gay man but I don't really see the point of fellow gay men strutting around half naked making a display of themselves. I am proud to be homosexual but I wouldn't go all out like that and make it a public display.

Don't worry honey, you didn't offend me either...it was only a question, you have every right to ask. Have yourself a Rainbow Day!!
