if you mean high range as in how high and how low you go on the scale its all a matter of AIR the more air you put into your trumpet the larger your range

Believe it or not the best way to develop a good high range is to have a steady strong middle range and low range. Here are some good exercises that will introduce your chops to playing high. I'm guessing since you're in high school and looking to play first trumpet that you'll want your range to where you can hit a D or E fairly comfortably (if you're in jazz). I'm not sure where your range is now but I want you to start with scales. Start on your B flat scale (not B flat concert) and play chromatically, hold out the last 3 or so notes. To increase your range you need to begin playing above the staff often. I don't know what your range is right now but I'm guessing that at your age and if you're playing 3rd trumpet then you probably will be around the range of an A. Play scales up to the note you feel comfortable at. If B is your highest note then don't play up to a B. Get comfortable at an A or a G. Good tone is a LOT more important than just hitting the note. You don't want to be an amateur :p. Get your chops up and you'll be fine. Remember range isn't how high you can hit, range is where you can comfortably play. Control and tone is everything my friend. Good luck rippin those Maynard Ferguson charts!
